Massart Auctioneers, Inc. of Green Bay WI recently conducted an online auction of Green Bay Packer memorabilia dating all the way back to the 1920`s. This was the collection of the late John Holzer, a sideline scoreboard keeper & owner of Holzers corner drug in downtown Green Bay. His collection consisted of mainly official programs covering each decade from the 20`s to the 70`s. There truly were some rare examples of Green Bay Packer history. The entire bidding process took place online & was a smashing success with 210 lots crossing the E auction block. Packer fans & collectors truly are everywhere as witnessed in auction registrations. There were 130 registered bidders representing 25 states! The auction ended on January 29thwith lots closing every 30 seconds; however time extended whenever a bid was placed within 2 minutes of a lots scheduled closing. The top lot of the day was a dinner program to the 4thAnnual Elks Sports award banquet that was signed by all 6 honorees including Lambeau-Hutson-Hinkle-McNally-Michalske-& Hubbard. It sold for an impressive $4,290.00. A 1931 Walker Packer Series portrait binder that had some missing key components sold for $3,135.00 & went to a happy buyer in Virginia. An award program autographed by Curly Lambeau sold for $2,475.00. The buyer was so excited he asked if it could be sent overnight mail. The official program of the icebowl may have only cost a $1.00 in 1967, but fast forward forty eight years to this auction & you will see an unbelievable winning bid of $1,567.50. An autograph by Nitschke on the ribbon of a We Love Ray button fetched $500.50, an autograph by Lombardi on the back of a photo sold for $616.00. Official programs from the 20`s & 30`s ranged in value from $300-$1,000.00. All prices reflected include a 10% buyer’s fee.
